Hernando Christmas Open House™/ Dickens of a Christmas

Shop and visit participating businesses in and around Hernando. They will be decked out in in their holiday decorations and have lots of specials to help you get a leg up on your Christmas shopping. In partnership with the City of Hernando, we also present the first ever Dickens of a Christmas. This special event will recreate the atmosphere of Christmas in Hernando during the Victorian Era.  Visitors can enjoy our first Christmas farmer's market with holiday wares, hot cocoa and cider. Carolers will be walking around  and singing to bring joy to the season.  The DeSoto County Museum will have carriage rides with a tour guide also dressed in period clothing who will talk about the Victorian period in Hernando. Participate in a class and take home a handmade crafts with the help of the Hernando Civic Garden Club. Northwest Mississippi Community College and DeSoto County Career Tech West will delight visitors with Christmas food demonstrations. Children can meet Santa Claus in the courthouse, make a Christmas ornament and get a free children’s book from Excel By 5.
